95% of Residents “Happy” in NWA

Northwest Arkansas residents gave overwhelmingly positive reviews of the region where they live, a survey made public today shows.

The Walton Family Foundation’s Quality of Life Survey showed 95 percent of the 1,035 people who completed the survey last year were either “fairly happy” or “very happy.”

The answers to the 99 survey questions provided insight into how residents feel about the region’s arts and culture, parks and trails, education, transportation and downtowns.

There are dozens of details in the full report, but many responses show how Northwest Arkansas residents feel about the region.

  • 72 percent of residents rated their overall quality of life as “excellent” or “very good.” In 2012, it was 59 percent.
  • 63 percent of those surveyed indicated they’d visited Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
  • 75 to 81 percent of those surveyed liked the quality of elementary schools through higher education, describing them as “good” or “very good.”
  • 69 percent of residents reported using the Razorback Regional Greenway or one of the region’s other trails.

The foundation is a major contributor to quality-of-life investments in Northwest Arkansas, including education, trails and museums. Family-directed foundation investments totaled nearly $97 million to 51 organizations between January 2013 and January 2016.
